Kenilworth Square was built as an off-campus liberal art's facility and apartment complex for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Among other things, it housed various film equipment, sound, dance and acting studios, and up to 330 students.
During the downtown riots, Kenilworth Sqaure was used as a shelter for rioters. Because of the outbreaks of violence these riots caused, the rioters had to permanently barracked themselves in. The MPD surrounded the building, causing a stalemate between the government and the rioters for over 3 months. Gunfire occurred occasionally during these three months, but ceased on the rioter's side eventually. The MPD then stormed the building, only to find a mass suicide by the rioters. Some detective work found the rioter's food supplies to be tarnished, and instead of ingesting the contaminated food they decided to hang themselves by the electrical cords found in the directing studio. The rioters filmed themselves committing suicide. These film reels are believed to be hidden inside the complex.
